Standing On The Outside

Standing on the outside always looking in.
Everywhere I go never really fitting in.
Everyone I meet is just passing through.
The only see the outside, never stopping to see the real you.

Love is won and love is lost.
Trust is hard earned and so quickly shattered.
Seeds of doubt are planted by one careless word, or action, or little white lie.
Sins of the past haunt our present and our future.

True friends are as hard to find as true love.
Lies and deceit are the friends of today's world.
People you've known for years and thought you knew quite well.
Turns out you didn't really know them at all.

Do we even really know ourselves?
Everyone changes to suit the people they're with.
Like chameleons hiding on a branch.
No one shows their true self, only a mask they hide behind.
Maybe we're all standing on the outside looking in.
